Application / registration
Applicants who wish to participate in the Summer School must apply by 15 March 2023.
24 participants shall be selected on a competitive basis from all qualified applications that will reach us before the deadline.
We welcome applications from anywhere in the world, while applicants from Ethiopia and Eritrea as well as female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

A commission shall evaluate the applications as to
- The qualification of the student
- The expected added value of the participation
- The equal opportunity requirements
The school aims at graduate and post-graduate students as well as young academic professionals who need the skills of working with manuscripts in order to promote cultural heritage management. Young promising scholars from Africa shall be given preference. Of them, preference shall be given, provided equal qualifications, to female candidates.
Participants of the prior HLCEES summer schools may not reapply.

Applicants should send us the following documents (written in English):
- signed application form
- résumé / curriculum vitae (max. 1 page)
- letter of motivation (max. 1 page).
In your letter of motivation please explain your motivation to take part in the Summer School, specify your relevant background and experience, and describe how participation in the Summer School would contribute to your ongoing/ future research (please be very concrete, with specific examples). Applicants for the grant should specify why a grant should be awarded and clearly state that no alternative funding is available from any other source.
Students willing to showcase their ongoing research to the summer school instructors and participants in a short presentation (of 10-15 minutes) may specify the title of the proposed paper on the application form.

Travel bursaries may be made available to excellent Summer School applicants (with preference given to applicants from Ethiopia and Eritrea). The grants shall cover the travel, the accommodation costs in a shared room* for up to 13 nights (3.-16.9.2023) and provide a subsistence contribution of 25 Euro per day for the duration of the school.
*Upgrade to a single room may be possible at the student's expense, provided the availability of rooms. Successful grantees are also welcome to seek their own accommodation, in which case they may receive a partial reimbursement of accommodation costs; in this case please contact the organizers for details.
